Constellation Culinary group is seeking a Facilities manager in the Bronx. This is a temporary role through June. This may develop into a permanent position but is not guaranteed. The Facilities Manager is responsible for the front and back of the house operations, excluding actual food production. The facilities manager must independently manage his / her department efficiently and cost effectively. S/he must work closely with Director of Catering and Event Managers S/he must work closely with the Executive Chef to ensure that all areas of the back of the house meets with all company standards for health, safety, operation and quality standards.
SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
I. Leadership
The Facilities Manager is responsible for working as a member of a cohesive management team that supports each other’s decisions and presents a united front to the staff. This individual functions as a role model to staff as well as to junior Managers. The Facilities manager maintains a positive, “win-win” attitude, always working to improve the catering division.
II. Facility Maintenance & Sanitation
The Facilities manager is responsible for overall facility maintenance, sanitation and cleanliness of the Garden Facilities. This includes –
- All front and back of the house spaces in the Garden Terrace Building, The Lillian and Ann Goldman Stone Mill, Visitor Center Cafe
- Daily cleaning schedule for all areas
- Managing the housemen team and their tasks and responsibilities
- Managing the stewarding team and dish cleaning area
- Maintain a clean and organized loading dock
- Weekly “deep cleaning” of all heavy equipment, floors and hoods
- Maintaining all equipment in good repair
- Ensuring that all event spaces are “show ready” and properly set up for each event in a timely fashion
III. Personnel
The Facility Manager is responsible for assisting the GM with overseeing all aspects of the staffing the facilities team, from a management level through hourly positions. In particular, the following areas of responsibility:
Recruiting & Hiring
- A Facility Manager is to determine appropriate staffing levels for housemen, equipment handlers, dishwashers and stewarding staff.
Training
- A Facility Manager is involved in the training process for all employees working within the commissary. This training should include safety, commissary standard operating procedures, key access and opening / closing checklist
IV. Financial & Profitability
A Facility Manager is responsible for working towards maximizing sales and optimizing profits through the management of all cost centers. A Facility Manager must remain abreast of the budget and understand the reasons behind why the budgeted targets were or were not met. A Facility Manager may be responsible for a particular cost center (i.e. paper goods). Facility Managers are expected to be able to analyze a monthly P & L, develop appropriate action plans and follow through on those plans. A Facility Manager must demonstrate a profit mentality by setting goals, following through and meeting goals. There needs to be a continual effort to find ways to reduce costs in all areas of the commissary.
V. Transportation & Logistics
A Facility Manager is responsible for maintaining a fleet of golf carts that transport food, beverages and equipment to events. This includes cleaning of the vehicles, preventative maintenance and daily inspection. A Facility Manager is responsible for documenting any damage made on a company vehicle and having it repaired immediately. A Facility Manager is responsible for training and coaching all staff operating company vehicles according the New York Botanical Garden operating guidelines
VI. Technical Knowledge
The Facility Manager must possess a working knowledge of the systems used within our company. In particular the Manager must be proficient in the following:
- Producing accurate monthly inventories (Equipment and NAB)
- Equipment and vessel knowledge
- Beverage knowledge
- CaterXpert
- TMX
VII. Problem Solving and Judgment
A Facility Manager is always pro-active, seeking out potential problems before they arise. Consistent decisions must be made which are in the best interest of SRCG. A Facility Manager is alert to all aspects of the operation throughout the shift and knows where to be and when. A Facility Manager has the ability to make clear, concise decisions on his/her feet.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
- One to two years management experience preferred
- Able to stand for a 12-14 hour shift
- Able to work independently and make the right decisions for the business
- Basic PC knowledge and comprehension (Word & Excel)
- Basic math knowledge and comprehension (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and percentages)
- Has a valid, current drivers license
- Able to lift 40 lbs
- Good communicator
The temporary salary is equivalent to $85,000 - $90,000
