The Role at a glance:

Our centralized Houston, TX based Accounting Organization is looking for a self-driven and solutions-oriented Accountant, GL to join a fast paced and maturing team as they create efficiencies within their processes and procedures.   

As the Accountant, General Ledger (GL) will be responsible for creating and maintaining accurate and compliant financial documents.  Duties include entering financial data and transactions into the ledger, reviewing, and reconciling accounts, managing multiple company accounts, providing detailed schedules in support of the Internal and External Audit process and assist with various other accounting, reporting and administrative tasks as needed.  

What you'll be doing:

  • Input data into accounting systems; post ledger and general journal entries; check and verify accuracy of entries and transactions; handle data entry for multiple companies daily. 
  • Prepare monthly/weekly reconciliations for Balance Sheet accounts and significant Income Statement accounts. 
  • Prepare weekly/monthly reconciliations for bank accounts for multiple companies. 
  • Maintain account balances and bank statements. 
  • Prepare and records month-end accruals. 
  • Ensure that transactions are reflected in the proper legal entity. 
  • Manage policy and compliance process for assigned areas; actively seek process improvements and propose process changes. 
  • Assist staff with ad-hoc requests and data gathering. 
  • Provide support for the Statutory Audits. 
  • Assist with special projects as requested by management. 
  • Accurately record financial transactions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or International Financial reporting Standards (IFRS). 

What we're looking for:

Must-haves:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business-related field or equivalent experience 
  • Three or more years of accounting experience 
  • Experience dealing with multiple work sites / remote groups  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word. 
  • ERP system experience (such as GP or SAP),  in a high volume, dynamic environment 
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience with revenue recognition concepts and practical application, month end close procedures, controls, internal reporting & analytics, and working with external auditors 
  • Knowledge of accounting: conceptual and practical experience in researching, understanding, and communicating technical accounting issues 
  • Is comfortable and has the capability to navigate uncertain or unclear situations, make informed decisions, and adapting to changing circumstances 
  • Designated in office work hours with ability to travel as needed up to 10% 
  • Ability to be recognized as a subject matter expert and valued partner with the business. 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Demonstrate the ability to deliver results while working in a fast-paced, change-driven environment with the ability to meet deadlines.  
  • Customer focused to ensure integrity of data 
  • Must be dependable, responsible and accountable  
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
