The Role at a glance:
We are seeking an Assistant General Manager at Como Amusements! This person will provide leadership to ensure that daily operations in the park are run successfully and efficiently establishing and ensuring that SOP and safety procedures are in place and fulfilled and making personnel decisions in support of the organization's direction and vision.
Como Town is a 4-acre amusement park adjacent to Como Zoo in Saint Paul, Minnesota. It has 18 rides and attractions, a general store and a variety of other outlets. The park is open seasonally from mid-April through September. During the off-season you will direct and review off-season activities of maintenance, marketing and human resources in preparation for the subsequent operating season. We are part of the Lancer Hospitality family of companies. Lancer Hospitality is a foodservice, catering, vending and entertainment company. Lancer holds exclusive foodservice and catering contracts at some of the Twin Cities most well-known venues including the Minnesota Zoo, Como Zoo and Conservatory, the Coliseum at the State Fair and many others.
What you'll be doing:
- Responsible for employee development including training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work
- Responsible for planning, executing and following up with spring job fairs and other recruitment efforts to ensure that park is properly staffed and equipped for opening of season
- Reports to General Manager
- Directly supervises a management team of supervisors and team leads
- Oversees seasonal staffing team of 40-60 employees
- Enforcement of ride operator safety training program to ensure that all rides are operated with the strictest regard to public safety
- Responsible for monitoring and controlling expenses in all areas throughout the year
- Oversight of food service operations in the park including operating hours, employee training, quality standards, customer service and appearance of food outlets
- Work with the maintenance department to ensure that the safety of our team members and guests remains our number one priority, including, but not limited to maintaining all equipment for safe operation.
- Support the Company's extensive food service and catering operations within Como Zoo and Conservatory by cross-training staff and working cooperatively to meet the staffing demands of all departments
- Provide leadership to ensure that maintenance work is assigned appropriately, completed in a timely manner and that the quality of work performed is acceptable and appropriate
- documentation has been completed (ride downtime, documentation of ride unloads, etc.). Assist crews with daily tasks as needed.
- Effectively communicate with all levels of the organization; this includes keeping an open line of communication with corporate staff and all departments in the park.
- Ability to maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards.
- Compliance with all personnel policies
What we're looking for:
- Qualified individual must have at least 2 years of management experience in a retail, restaurant, education, corporate or non-profit environment. Amusement park experience is not required.
- Demonstrated leadership in the areas of customer service
- The experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Excellent communication and follow-up skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems and present solutions for a variety of situations.
- Ability to multi-task and consistently lead and direct the work of others.
- Ability to learn, adapt to new situations and train and develop team members and direct reports.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills.
- Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, email software and other related programs.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business communications, schematics, technical manuals, and federal, state and local regulations.
- Ability to write general business correspondence, and communicate with vendors, and co-workers.

Salary Range: 55-60,000/year
