What you'll be doing:

  • Providing hands-on supervision and oversight for the preparation, cooking, and portioning of meals, following company recipes based on daily needs and contractual obligations. 
  • Ensuring all meals meet standards for quality.

Your Pay:

$17 / hour

Prior to Reporting to Work

  • Observe our Proper Hygiene & Handwashing policy
  • Observe our uniform standards, ensuring you wear non-slip shoes, no jeans or leggings
  • Observe our attendance standards by arriving no later than 5 minutes after your scheduled time
  • Learn and follow all company policies related to Food, Chemical, and Personal Safety
  • Strictly adhere to all company policies, procedures, and guidelines related to Food Safety
  • Maintain required Food Handler’s Certificate
  • Arrive by 6:00am daily and work until at least 2:00pm daily

Prior to Service

  • Assess staffing and product levels. Reach out to the designated contact on the Office Contact List
  • Put on your apron, hairnet, and beard net if needed. wash your hands, and put on gloves before entering any area where food is prepared or served.
  • Ensure thermometers are calibrated, and sanitizer is at the proper concentration. Do not begin prepping food until sanitizer buckets are full and on-line.
  • Conduct morning meetings if needed.
  • Print recipes and production records for your Food Service Workers
  • Review recipes and address any concerns with your Food Service Directors immediately.
  • Prepare meals exactly as instructed by the recipe. Do not deviate.
  • Ensure stations remain clean, and sanitizer buckets are full and are changed every 2 hours.
  • Ensure food, chemical, and workplace safety standards are being upheld at all times.
  • Ensure service line is fully set a minimum of 15 minutes before service. Hot areas hot, cold areas cold.

During and After Service

  • Ensure all students are given the correct portion sizes.
  • Ensure all students take at least 3 of the 5 food components offered, one of which must be fruit or vegetable.
  • Ensure meals are being recorded accurately during service.
  • Assess if you need to prep after service. Ensure all Logs are filled out and areas are clean.
  • Ensure production records are filled out and entered in the system by end of day.
  • Scan meal count sheets and send copies to your Directors. Give originals to the Program Director at the end of the week.
  • Complete orders no later than 10 hours before orders are due. Only order items that are on your approved shopping list, and only order the appropriate amount of product.
  • Inventory must be completed for your location by 3pm on Thursdays.
  • May require working in various areas of the department, such as the tray line, dish room, cafeteria, refrigerator, freezer, and storeroom.  
  • Kitchens can get very hot. Be sure to drink plenty of water and take your scheduled breaks,
  • Do not be aggressive or argumentative with your workers. If they question what you are telling them, show them the policy/procedure from the Food Safety Manual. Address any concerns before or after food service, not during. Report concerning or repeated issues to your Directors.

What we're looking for:

Must-haves: 

  • Experience supervising multiple employees. 
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.  
  • Excellent attention to detail and service knowledge. 

Nice-to-haves: 

  • An advanced degree in culinary arts or a related field. 
  • Food Handler’s certification.
