The Role at a glance:
We are looking for a skilled, Sales & Use Tax Analyst to join the Business Tax Team. This position is responsible for performance of indirect tax compliance functions, including but not limited to the preparation and filing sales, use, and B&O tax returns, and providing tax support to corporate and operating units by researching the tax laws and regulations applicable to the various goods and services provided to our clients. Other responsibilities may include preparing and filing business license applications and property tax compliance. This position interacts extensively with state and local tax authorities across the continental United States. This role reports directly to the Sr. Director, Business Tax.
What you'll be doing:
- Prepare multi-states/local sales and use tax returns
- Reconcile monthly tax accrual accounts
- Research licensing or permit requirements by jurisdiction
- Maintain sales tax compliance calendar for all locations supported by Shared Services
- Apply for and obtain Tax Permits/Licenses/Registrations
- Maintain tax rates for sales, use, meals, and alcohol sales
- Work with clients, internal customers, and outside taxing authorities, mainly via phone and email, to resolve tax issues
- Maintain and Issue resale certificates as applicable
- Review customer exemption certificate for completeness and validity
- Prepare monthly metric on team performance as assigned
What we're looking for:
Must-haves:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from an accredited 4-year college or university
- 3+ years’ experience in sales and use tax compliance experience
- Experience preparing multi-state/local sales and use tax returns
- Solid grasp of general accounting concepts and P&L
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and Word skills
- Excellent analytical skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to execute projects to plan and meet assigned deadlines
- Build and maintain solid work relationships with all levels of staff and management
- Desire and willingness to learn
- Ability to work closely with operations and other departments in finance
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience in sales and use tax compliance in retail or food service business
